KS3 Intervention Programme
We offer an early Intervention Programme aimed at pupils predominately in years 7 and 8, who due to social and emotional needs are having issues around attending school. It is a 6 week programme designed to support and motivate pupils to achieve their potential by improving their attendance at mainstream school. Past programmes have been very successful and have led to improved pupil attendance by up to 10%.
The pupils attend the Centre 1 day a week for 6 weeks. The focus of the programme is building self-esteem and confidence through a series of PSHE/SMSC type activities and art, drama and music.
Parents and staff at the pupils' mainstream schools are invited to attend the final session to celebrate pupils' work and achievements. Pupils are also invited to return to the Centre for special occasions.
A planned series of follow up and outreach visits are arranged following the programme; St. Peter's staff visit pupils in their schools working alongside school staff.
During the academic year 2018/2019 we ran 5 programmes supporting 28 pupils.
"Many of the pupils who attended have shown a positive change to their attitude towards school. One young person was refusing to come to school, but after completing the programme, Mum no longer has issues getting him into school."
Evaluation from Assistant Head, July 2017.
